In the context of a world increasingly facing challenges from natural disasters, accidents, and public health emergencies, the training of professionals capable of managing and responding to emergencies has become critically important. 

The Emergency Technology and Management major not only provides theoretical knowledge but also equips students with the practical skills necessary to effectively handle emergency situations.

Introduction

The Emergency Technology and Management major is an emerging interdisciplinary field aimed at cultivating high-quality talents with theoretical knowledge, technical means, and practical abilities in emergency management. 

This major involves emergency management work in various aspects such as natural disasters, accident disasters, public health events, etc., aiming to improve society's ability to respond to emergencies and ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

Training Objectives

This major aims to cultivate well-rounded individuals with firm and correct ideals and beliefs, good moral character, patriotism, and social responsibility. Graduates will master the basic knowledge, theories, methods, and skills of emergency technology and management, and possess the ability to handle emergencies, assess disaster risks, manage emergency information, assist in emergency decision-making, plan for disaster prevention, and conduct emergency response and rescue.

  • Objective 1: Possess good humanities and social science literacy and strong social responsibility, adhere to professional ethics, be familiar with national laws and regulations in the field of emergency management, and establish correct engineering ethics.
  • Objective 2: Master professional knowledge in emergency technology and management and related fields, possess basic scientific thinking methods, dialectical decision-making abilities, and emergency awareness, and be able to use modern tools and technologies to solve complex engineering problems in the field of emergency technology and management.
  • Objective 3: Provide professional consulting and technical services for government departments, industry enterprises, and social organizations in risk management, emergency warning, on-site handling, disaster victim resettlement, emergency training, plan preparation, and drills.
  • Objective 4: Proficiently use computer technology and information technology means, and integrate future technologies into safety and emergency management practices to solve scientific, engineering, technical, and management problems in this field.
  • Objective 5: Competent in related education and training, research and development, engineering applications, technical consulting, and industry enterprise management work in this major or similar majors, and achieve the capabilities of emergency rescue and management engineers five years after graduation.

Graduation Requirements

Based on the training objectives and characteristics, through courses in humanities and social sciences, engineering fundamentals, professional fundamentals, professional courses, academic lectures, social practice activities, cultural and artistic activities, production practice and internships, various innovation and entrepreneurship education and activities, career and life counseling, etc., graduates of this major will master general and specialized engineering knowledge and possess the ability to discover, analyze, and solve complex engineering problems using existing technologies and tools. Specific requirements are as follows:

  1. Engineering Knowledge: Able to apply mathematics, natural sciences, engineering fundamentals, and professional knowledge to solve complex problems in emergency technology and management.
  2. Problem Analysis: Able to apply basic principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences to identify, express, and analyze complex problems in emergency technology and management through literature research to obtain effective conclusions.
  3. Design/Develop Solutions: Able to design solutions for complex problems in emergency technology and management, design systems, units (components), or processes that meet the needs of emergency technology and management, and demonstrate innovation awareness in the design process, considering social, health, safety, legal, cultural, and environmental factors.
  4. Research: Able to conduct research on complex problems in emergency technology and management based on scientific principles and methods, including designing experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, and obtaining reasonable and effective conclusions through information synthesis.
  5. Use of Modern Tools: Able to develop, select, and use appropriate technologies, resources, modern engineering tools, and information technology tools for complex problems in emergency technology and management, including predicting and simulating complex engineering problems, and understanding their limitations.
  6. Engineering and Society: Able to conduct reasonable analysis based on engineering-related background knowledge, evaluate the impact of engineering practices and solutions for complex problems in emergency technology and management on society, health, safety, legal, and cultural aspects, and understand the responsibilities to be undertaken.
  7. Environment and Sustainable Development: Able to understand and evaluate the impact of professional engineering practices on the environment and social sustainable development for complex problems in emergency technology and management.
  8. Professional Norms: Possess humanities and social science literacy, social responsibility, and be able to understand and adhere to engineering professional ethics and norms in engineering practice, fulfilling responsibilities.
  9. Individual and Team: Able to assume roles as individuals, team members, and leaders in multidisciplinary teams.
  10. Communication: Able to effectively communicate and exchange with industry peers and the public on complex problems in emergency technology and management, including writing reports and design documents, making presentations, clearly expressing or responding to instructions, and possessing a certain international perspective to communicate and exchange in cross-cultural contexts.
  11. Project Management: Understand and master engineering management principles and economic decision-making methods, and be able to apply them in multidisciplinary environments.
  12. Lifelong Learning: Possess the awareness of autonomous learning and lifelong learning, and have the ability to continuously learn and adapt to development.
