Professional Internship
Internship is a mandatory component of the Master's in Translation program. The internship duration is at least one semester, and students must complete at least 100,000 words (in Chinese or a foreign language) of translation work. Content may include: literary translation, subtitle translation, administrative document translation, commercial promotion translation, academic translation, etc. Upon completion, students need to submit an evaluation from the internship host organization. Internship cannot be replaced by course credits.
Training Methods
The program applies a method combining theory and practice, classroom teaching and extracurricular experiential activities. Key points include:
- Employ diverse teaching formats: lectures, discussions, simulations, projects, using translation labs and translation support software.
- Focus on training practical skills and analyzing real-world translation scenarios.
- Apply a dual-tutoring system (university instructor and external translation expert).
- Encourage students to participate in international exchange programs, joint training collaborations, and overseas internships.
Research Directions
- Advanced Humanities Translation: Focus on fields such as literature, culture, journalism, diplomacy, economics, law, politics, etc., emphasizing comprehensive development of abilities and advanced translation skills.
- Political Document Translation: In-depth training in translating national political documents, current affairs terminology, international communication strategies, and techniques for translating current affairs materials.
Note: Some universities do not divide research directions within the English Translation major.
Degree
Students who complete the required number of credits and successfully defend their thesis will be awarded a Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) degree according to the university's regulations.
