Mode and Duration of Study

The normal length of study for the master's program is 3 years, with a maximum duration of 6 years (including suspension and retention of student status). Full-time study is required, combining coursework with academic research.

Curriculum

Practical Training

Master’s students must complete no fewer than 15 working days of practical activities, such as internships, research projects, social investigations, volunteer service, or teaching support. 

A written report (minimum 500 words) summarizing the activity and reflections is required, with supporting materials and photographs. Reports must be approved by the supervisor and the faculty to earn 1 credit.

Training Mode

This program adopts a supervisor responsibility system. Each student will be assigned a supervisor during the first semester to guide them in developing a personal study plan, conducting research, and completing their thesis.

Research Directions

• English Language and Literature: This track focuses on modern linguistic theory and literary studies. It involves interdisciplinary research on language, literature, and culture from perspectives such as cognition, psychology, and linguistic intelligence. It aims to develop students’ abilities in English literary and cultural research.
• Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics: This direction emphasizes second language acquisition, foreign language pedagogy, teacher development, learner differences, and applied research in linguistics. It prepares students for teaching and academic research.
• Translation Studies: This area explores Chinese and Western translation theories, applying methods from linguistics, literary studies, and intercultural communication. Research topics include translation of literary classics, political and business texts, and translation pedagogy.

Degree Awarding

Graduates who complete all required credits and pass the thesis defense, and meet the awarding criteria set by the university, will be conferred the Master of Arts in Foreign Language and Literature.
