Program Introduction

The Master's Program in French Language and Literature aims to cultivate high-level talents with a solid language foundation, broad international vision, strong research ability, and cross-cultural communication skills. 

Students will systematically study French language, literature, culture, and relevant interdisciplinary knowledge to comprehensively improve their skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation, while also gaining in-depth understanding of the history, politics, society, and culture of Francophone countries and regions to serve global communication and cooperation needs.

  • A solid theoretical foundation and professional knowledge of French language and literature, as well as familiarity with the socio-cultural backgrounds of Francophone countries;

Mode and Duration of Study

  • Duration: Full-time, 3 years; maximum allowed study period is 4 years.
  • Early Graduation: Outstanding students who complete all required credits with excellent grades and obtain thesis writing qualifications may apply for early graduation (up to 1 year early).
  • Extension: Students unable to complete their studies on time for special reasons must apply 3 months before the scheduled graduation. Upon approval, the extension period may not exceed 1 academic year.

Professional Practice

Students are expected to participate in relevant internships or social practice activities in the second or third year. Based on their area of specialization, they may engage in teaching, translation, foreign affairs, or cultural exchange. A practice report must be submitted and evaluated by the advisor. This accounts for 1 credit.

  • A comprehensive training model combining coursework, literature reading, academic research, and practical experience;
  • Under the guidance of a supervisor, students will develop their study plan, determine a thesis topic, participate in research projects and academic activities, and complete the writing and defense of their thesis.
