International Organizations and Global Governance
In an era of profound globalization and shifting international order, understanding and engaging in global governance has become more critical than ever. The major in International Organizations and Global Governance equips students with the tools, knowledge, and mindset necessary to navigate international institutions and contribute meaningfully to a more cooperative and sustainable world.
Major Introduction
The current global governance system is undergoing a historic transformation, and the direction of its development is attracting worldwide attention. The role of international organizations in global governance is becoming increasingly prominent.
China is unprecedentedly close to the center of the world stage and urgently needs a large number of outstanding talents to participate in international organizations and global governance. This course aims to equip students with the basic knowledge and skills required to apply to international organizations, systematically understand the history, culture, structure, and role of international organizations, and comprehensively recognize China's role and challenges within these organizations.
The program aims to cultivate students' global perspectives and world feelings. Current and former senior officials from international organizations are invited to teach and interact with students.
Training Objectives
The International Organizations and Global Governance major is designed to meet the needs of the new era's national foreign openness and the "Belt and Road" initiative.
It aims to train students who understand both Chinese and foreign cultures, the history of scientific and technological development, and who possess a broad interdisciplinary knowledge base in international relations, international organizations, and global governance, including international politics, international economics, international law, international media and communication, and diplomacy.
Graduates should have a strong Chinese sentiment, a global perspective, and a sense of the community of shared human destiny. Students will be proficient in both English and French, the two commonly used languages in international organizations, and be familiar with international rules. The program also focuses on developing students' cross-cultural communication skills and international negotiation abilities, preparing them for careers in international organizations and global governance.
Graduation Requirements
The International Organizations and Global Governance major requires students to possess excellent political literacy, moral qualities, humanistic spirit, scientific literacy, innovative thinking, and an international perspective.
Students must master the professional knowledge of international organizations, international relations, international politics, international law, international economics, international news communication, and diplomacy. They must also be proficient in both English and French, with strong comprehensive language abilities, cross-cultural abilities, and critical thinking skills. Knowledge Requirements
- Master relevant knowledge in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
- Master English language knowledge, with proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation skills.
- Master French language knowledge, with proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- Master the basic theories and knowledge of political science, international relations, international organizations, and global governance.
- Master professional knowledge in international politics, world economics, international law, international news communication, and diplomacy.
- Understand both Chinese and foreign cultures, world history, and the development of global science and technology.
- Master Chinese cultural knowledge and its English expression methods.
Ability Requirements
- Strong comprehensive ability to use English.
- Strong comprehensive ability to use French.
- Good cross-cultural communication and international relations skills, with the ability to communicate and interact with different countries and cultural groups, respecting and appreciating other cultures.
- Critical thinking ability, with the capacity for analysis, reasoning, and judgment regarding national conditions and social phenomena.
- Ability to handle international affairs, including research and international negotiation skills.
- Understanding of contemporary China, with the ability to tell China's story in both English and French and promote Chinese culture.
Language Proficiency Requirements
- English proficiency of IELTS 6.5 or above, with the ability to communicate freely in daily conversations, writing, and speeches; the ability to read scientific and technical literature, conduct research in English, write academic papers, and present reports in international conferences in English.
- French proficiency at the B2 level according to the French Ministry of Education’s language proficiency tests (DELF/TEF/TCF), with the ability to understand general and slightly complex arguments, read social science articles, and engage in normal communication with native French speakers. In writing, students should be able to clearly express their opinions and narrate events through commentary and description.
