Major Introduction

Network and New Media is a major that focuses on the integration of information technology, digital communication, and social media networks. Training Objectives

This major trains interdisciplinary talents in journalism and communication, focusing on the application of internet and digital technologies. Graduates are expected to meet the requirements of the intelligent media era, possess fundamental knowledge of network and new media communication theories, and be proficient in basic internet, big data, and artificial intelligence-related network communication technologies and application development capabilities. Students will be able to use network and new media technologies for information content production, creative planning, innovative communication, and operation management. After graduation, students will be able to work in the new media departments of traditional media, network and new media agencies, large and medium-sized enterprises, public welfare organizations, and government departments.

The specific objectives include:

  • Possessing a sound personality, solid scientific and cultural literacy, a strong sense of professional ethics, integrity, and social responsibility.
  • Adapting to the intelligent media era, mastering the basic network and new media thinking, theories, and knowledge, and being proficient in the basic network communication technologies related to the internet, big data, and artificial intelligence.
  • Demonstrating the ability to work independently, with a certain degree of innovation and strategic management, and having the capability to participate in the formulation of business development plans, while focusing on social harmony and career sustainability.
  • Possessing strong teamwork spirit and good communication skills, being able to work in multidisciplinary teams or cross-cultural environments, and being effective in roles such as team members, technical backbones, or key leaders in technology development or engineering operation teams.

Graduation Requirements

The Network and New Media major emphasizes artificial intelligence and new media, focusing on the integration of journalism and communication + technology (intelligent media technology) + art (media design art). Through a four-year undergraduate program, the Network and New Media graduates are expected to achieve the following:

(1) Basic Theories and Knowledge of Journalism and New Media

  • Systematically studying and mastering the basic theory of Marxism, having a solid humanistic foundation and broad social science knowledge, as well as mastering natural science and some technical knowledge and skills. These form the basis for professional recognition and expression of network and new media.
  • Mastering the basic theories and methods of journalism and communication, with basic media literacy and knowledge of the application theory and basic technology of network and new media.
  • Applying professional knowledge such as news ethics and laws, art introduction, culture and communication to enhance news literacy in terms of ethics, aesthetics, creativity, and humanistic feelings.
  • Using communication research theories and methods to scientifically research media phenomena.

(2) Ability to Analyze Problems

  • Applying communication, network and new media, communication ethics and laws, culture and communication theories to identify key issues in journalism and new media operations.
  • Integrating sociology, political science, economics, history, literature, science and technology, economics, and other basic theories to identify key issues in journalism and new media operations and offer solutions.
  • Analyzing and optimizing solutions to network and new media industry and operational issues through literature research, and synthesizing conclusions.

(3) Ability to Develop Plans and Make Decisions in Network and New Media Work

  • Meeting the basic requirements of content production and operation management in the intelligent media era for network and new media.
  • Focusing on creative and innovative work, with an ability to consider social, health, safety, legal, economic, cultural, and environmental factors when making decisions, while focusing on communication and social effects.

(4) Research Ability

  • Mastering the background knowledge and current research status of network and new media, communication studies, culture and communication, and media economics.
  • Selecting appropriate communication theories and analysis methods for network and new media phenomena, constructing reasonable theoretical frameworks, using analysis tools, and designing research plans.

(5) Ability to Correctly Use Tools

  • Mastering the use of computer collection and editing software in network and new media practices, understanding the principles and methods of using photography, video, and audio-visual shooting equipment and editing software, and understanding their advantages and disadvantages.
